American landscape painter, Melanie Kozol, is known for her evocative paintings of the natural world. Kozol looks for archetypal formations in the environment to explore light, color and atmosphere. She plays with the boundaries of representation and abstraction, yet remains firmly rooted in the world as we know it. Working from 'plein air' studies, photographic documentation and memory, Kozol re-imagines the environment through the painting process. Her landscape paintings and drawings are infused with memory and the experience of being in nature.

The series, Talking Heads, is based on the 24-hour news cycle. An alternative form of figure sketching, images and words are considered and distilled from the current political climate. This work began in 2017 and continues today!
